Sequence Alignments and
Phylogenetic Trees
In this module, two lectures provide context for thinking about evolution and sequence similarity.
A sequence alignment and phylogenetic tree exercise, answer key, and slides highlighting the message behind the exercises are provided.
Lectures
Prof. Siobain Duffy, Rutgers Department of Ecology, Evolution and Natural Resources (Duffy Lab)
Siobain Duffy thanks Vaughn Cooper (University of Pittsburgh) for sharing his slides on SARS-CoV-2 evolution.
Prof. Yana Brombeg, Rutgers School of Environmental and Biological Sciences (Bromberg Lab)
Exercises, Answers, Take Home Messages
This exercises uses the sequence of a SARS-CoV-2 structure as the entry point to generating sequence alignments and trees. Output from one step is used as input for the next. Use of MSWord and screenshots for tracking progress is suggested but not required.
